Our Favorite Fall Books

This summer we spent a lot of time on our patio playing in the sandbox, working on our mini garden and of course reading and talking about big whales & dolphins, bugs and bees, flowers & fruits. With crisp in the air and sights of the first yellow and brown leaves on the ground, it's safe to officially say goodbye summer, hello autumn. We moved our story times indoors, rotated some of the books on our bookshelves and took out (plus bought some) new fall-themed books to cozy up and welcome this change of seasons.

Here are some of our favorites. I hope you and your littles enjoy them as much as we do!

The Scarecrow - A beautifully illustrated book with an impactful rhymed story about loneliness, love and true friendship between adversaries. It is a true joy to behold.

Fair Shares - The story is not really fall-themed, but it made it to our autumn bookshelf because of the fall-themed illustrations. Plus it is a wonderful story that promotes fairness.

Sweep - By far one of my favorites!!! We have been pouring over this book for many days. Filled with stunning illustrations by Julia Sarda, it is a perfect storybook to explore mindfulness and big emotions and how sometimes something little and insignificant can grown into something huge and influence everyone around you.

Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn - A beautiful book by author and illustrator Kenard Pack. We join a little girl on a walk in the forest and town and observe how how everything around us and in nature changes and we say goodbye to the summer warmth and hello to shorter chilly fall days.

Strictly No Elephants- A super sweet, affirming and powerful story about friendship, differences and inclusion, filled with beautiful fall-themes illustrations.

Usborne Lift-the Flap Seasons and Weather - Over 80 flaps for little hands to flip and lots of things to discover and talk about. A great book for introducing children to different times of the year and describe different kinds of weather.

The Little Kitten - A sweet story about a girl who must return a lost kitten home. The illustrations are super charming with foil embossing scattered throughout and little cut outs on some of the pages.

The Four Seasons - A beautifully illustrated press-a-sound book with Vivaldi's music.

Lift-the-Flap First Questions and Answers: What Makes it Rain? - Usborne First Questions and Answers series is perfect for little kids who always ask why and how. Brightly illustrated, this book has a ton of flaps for little hands to open and is filled with a lot of science questions and answers that are easily broken down for kids.

My Very First Outdoor Book - Filled with charming illustrations, this engaging picture book is full of ideas for things to see and do outdoors.

HALLOWEEN THEMED BOOKS:

Beast Feast - Brightly colored with scribbly illustrations and fun letters to open, this story is about a beast and a witty boy who develop an unlikely friendship. It will make your kids giggle for sure!

Little Blue Truck's Halloween- My son is a big fan of Little Blue. Just like the other books in the series, the book is filled with great rhymes and fun costumes.

Room on the Broom - We love all Julia Donaldson books, they all have stories and themes that are very kind and the rhymes are just so much fun to read - " A witch had a cat and a hat that was black. And a long ginger hair in a braid down her back" Plus the witch in this book is absolutely adorable. Check out the cartoon on Netflix as well.

The Prince and the Witch and the Thief and the Bears - An action-packed adventure tale created by Jamie and her dad. You will meat bears and princes jostling with broccoli-wielding frogs, evil-eyed ninja witches and jewel thief princesses. This book will inspire parents and children to embark on their very own storytelling journeys together.

That's Not My Witch - another book with an adorable witch + it is touchy-feely & thick pages are perfect for little toddler hands.

That's Not My Bat - this delightfully spooky book, complete with purple holographic page edges and adorable bats with hairy ears, fluffy tummies, and shiny eyes.

Poppy and Sam's Halloween Party - This sweet little book has been an inspiration for dress up play and playing hide and seek with our dog.

Five Black Cats- Super cute illustrations and rhymes about five black cats who are wondering spooky streets and at the end end up at the Halloween Party.
